民事案件的“原告”和“被告”分別為“plaintiff”和“defendant”；
離婚案件的“原告”和“被告”分別為“petitioner”和“respondent”；
海事案件的“原告”和“被告”分別為“libellant”和“libellee”；
刑事案件的“自訴人/公訴人”和“被告人”則分別為“private prosecutor/public prosecutor”和“the accused”。
仲裁中的申請人和被申請人分別是claimant 和respondent
